Cornish wasn't he?
Cor, that took a pen and paper to work out but ...
Unless Ygraine was Cornish herself (unlikely - ducal alliances would have made her the daughter or sister of another duke, not of one of Gorlois's vassals), no more than a quarter Cornish (if Morgause / Anna was Arthur's half sister and the daughter of Gorlois, rather than the full sister of the later works). Would have thought of himself as an Orkney Viking, as the acknowledged son of Lot, though.
The earliest stuff has him as the legitimate son of Lot and Morgause, and possibly Arthur's foster son.
On the other hand, Kennedy was American, for all his pretensions.
